‘The Death of Robin Hood,’ Starring Hugh Jackman and Jodie Comer, Picked Up for U.K. by True Brit
Set in Sherwood Forest and starring Hugh Jackman and Jodie Comer, the film is being directed by Michael Sarnoski, behind the critically acclaimed “Pig” and upcoming “A Quiet Place: Day One.”
As per the logline, “The Death of Robin Hood” sees the Prince of Thieves having banished the jolly green tights of previous incarnations, becoming instead “a battle-worn loner” who finds himself “grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder and in the hands of a mysterious woman.”
Lyrical Media is fully financing “The Death of Robin Hood.” Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett will produce under their Ryder Picture Company banner alongside Alexander Black for Lyrical Media. Lyrical’s Jon Rosenberg and Natalie Sellers will executive produce with Rama Gottumukkala, Sarnoski and Jackman. The acquisition was brokered by WME Independent.
“Our role in the industry is to champion British stories on a global stage but also to bring the best of British stories to audiences in the U.K.,” said Zygi Kamasa, the former Lionsgate U.K. and Europe chief and Marv Studios Group CEO who founded True Brit in 2023. “This movie is an important title for the British indie space with two major global stars in a film that shows a different take on a well-loved figure of English folklore. We are undoubtedly very excited to have it on our growing slate.”
The “The Death of Robin Hood” acquisition brings True Brit’s slate of independent British films to seven in the space of seven months, and includes “Christmas Karma,” Gurinder Chadha’s Bollywood inspired adaptation of “A Christmas Carol,” which the company is also financing.
